5 Ways To Build Your Personal Brand On Twitter

Learn 5 ways to build your personal brand on Twitter with I on Image’s guest blogger Eleanor Jones, the blogger at Not So Modern Girl. Make your online brand shine bright like a diamond – also on Twitter.

Building your Twitter account can be so hard, especially as you’re trying to find your personal brand and tone of voice. I’ve loved growing my Twitter account over the past couple of years and I’ve used it to promote my blog and encourage more people to read my blog posts over the years. I recently reached 6k Twitter followers, and I love reaching out to a vibrant online community of avid readers and like-minded bloggers.

I’m so excited to feature my writing on Jenni’s blog today, listing 5 ways to build your personal brand on Twitter. I hope my ideas give you something to think about when building your own online brand, and reaching out to more followers.

1. Find A Community

One of the best ways to build your personal brand on Twitter is to find a community that you love! When you’ve found a group of readers that are supportive and kind, you’ll start to feel more comfortable posting online, and it makes all the difference when you get to know what your followers love to see.

Building your personal brand on Twitter is all about creating a place where you enjoy expressing yourself and promoting your work, and as you grow your following you’ll start to understand who you like talking to and who is going to respond to your ideas.

2. Follow People Who Interest You

On Twitter there is a big “follow back” culture, where if someone follows you, you should follow back. While it’s great to be supportive towards other Twitter users, it’s also important that you only follow people that interest you. Otherwise, your feed will be full of posts that don’t interest you, and it’ll be harder to grow that vibrant community of bloggers or readers that you want to converse with.

3. Find Your Niche

I don’t love the term “niche” as I think you can tweet about anything and everything! But finding what you love to talk about is a great way to build your personal brand on Twitter, and show potential followers what to expect from you.

For example, if you love politics then your followers can come to expect political facts and strong opinions, or if you’re passionate about the environment your followers can come to your Twitter account for the latest on everything sustainable. Whatever your interest, make it clear what your Twitter followers can expect from your account to grow your personal brand.

4. Don’t Just Promote Yourself!

Building your personal brand on Twitter is about more than just promoting yourself! Once you’ve built that supportive community on Twitter, it’s important to keep supporting other people. Share someone else’s tweet when it interests you, comment and retweet, and make sure to keep supporting all of your favorite accounts.

It’s great for the algorithm to promote accounts you don’t normally engage with too, so make sure to promote others -as well as creating your own tweets, of course.

5. Schedule Lots Of Tweets

When you’re trying to build your personal brand on Twitter, the best way to stay on top of your workload is to schedule lots of tweets in advance. This means that you can successfully keep up a tweet or blogging routine.

Whether you want to tweet 3 times per day or 3 times per week, setting up your tweets in advance means you don’t have to sit down and physically tweet everyday. It’s only by tweeting regularly that you’ll build up a following and create a personal brand online that people come to enjoy.

I have a similar experience Jaya. It’s better to take time to find your tribe and enjoy their posts. Thank you for sharing your journey and I am glad you enjoyed the post xx

When I started out I basically followed everyone I came across and clicked away in the ‘recommended’ section. I know now this was a mistake, as my feed was often clogged with posts I scrolled past.

Once I started to unfollow the people I am not interested in, I started to feel a lot more engaged by the platform and I found myself responding to more and more tweets.
Thanks for sharing your helpful tips!

I think twitter is an amazing place to build your brand. I have a blog and Twitter is by far one of the best platform for bloggers. I schedule posts and it’s so helpful tbh. I love the tip about joining a community. The writing/blogging community on Twitter are so helpful and supportive. I am so glad I found it.

Thank you Lisa! I was delighted to learn so much from Eleanor. I have been on Twitter for years but never really got a hold of it. Her tips helped me to get more out of the app. Thank you also for following us both xx

Eleanor’s point about sharing posts that interest you is so valid – social media is about conversations, not just self-promotion. Great tips and guest post – and yes, I already follow both of you! X

Thank you so much Vourneen! It was wonderful to have Eleanor as a guest blogger here at I on Image. Scheduling tweets made a massive difference in my daily organizing and helped me focus better. Even my views got better because of that. This weekend I scheduled all tweets for the whole November. I can warmly recommend trying it!
