No white after Labor Day

US Labor Day was on Monday 7th September 2015 and to many this has been the time to pack away your white clothing. I on Image answers the question that has plagued mankind for decades: Can you wear white after Labor Day? The grand house of American etiquette, The Emily Post Institute in Vermont gives us a historical insight to this style rule:

“Back in Emily’s day—the nineteen 00s, 10s and 20s—the summer season was bracketed by Memorial Day and Labor Day. Society flocked en masse from town house to seaside “cottage” or mountain “cabin” to escape the heat. City clothes were left behind in exchange for lighter, whiter, summer costumes. Come fall and the return to the city, summer clothes were put away and more formal city clothes donned once more. It was an age when there was a dress code for practically every occasion, and the signal to mark the change between summer resort clothes and clothing worn for the rest of the year was encapsulated in the dictum “No white after Labor Day.” And it stuck.”

Fashion bibles Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar declare this rule dead a long time ago and show several gorgeous ways to incorporate white in your autumn and winter wardrobe.

“The age-old adage advising not to wear white after Labor Day has never looked as wrong as it does for Fall 2015.”Steff Yotka for Vogue
“Whoever decided that white was unacceptable after Labor Day clearly never experienced the coziness of an alabaster-colored cashmere knit on a crisp fall day or the luxe feel of buttery leather leggings in the softest shade of cream.” for Harper’s Bazaar

I have created you four wearable white looks to wear this season in the office and beyond. All looks can be purchased through StyleFruits.nl.

Business-outfits - No white after Labor Day

This white Bodyflirt draped jersey dress looks super sharp with black and gold accessories. I noticed that it’s on sale now. Wink, wink.

Business-outfits - No white after Labor Day

This white Miss Selfridge blazer is actually a cape. It looks beyond cool with skinny J. Brand jeans and white Adidas Superstars.

What’s there not to like about this checked Bon Prix dress with a peplum detail. It works for you all year round. I could not help myself adding black leather to this otherwise conservative look. It toughens everything up in a flash!

Soft buttery shades of the early 80’s are huge this season. I can totally see Charlie’s Angels rocking this look. Yep, they will remain the only women in history who could run in heels!

Did I convince you to wear white all year round? In case I did, it’s time to stock up on Vanish. Happy shopping and enjoy your well earned weekend!

You won’t be seeing my usual greys, blacks and beiges on this board. This is the perfect season to rock some serious colour and crisp white is my preferred neutral to pair those sunny shades of coral, pineapple, grass, strawberry and the Mediterranean right now.

You may not need the blazer but I have added a fitted white one in case you have to present or meet a client. It upgrades your look immediately to business class and it’s nice to have sleeves should the office air-co be turned on max.

Commuters, pregnant ladies and those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, I have selected stylish flats to complement each outfit. Open toes are ok in most offices but make sure yours are at least well buffed. Neutral is the most stylish nail varnish shade of the season but nothing beats a classic red.

Stylish sunglasses are a must when you are popping out for your soy caramel frappuccino. You may ask me why I have selected only tiny bags for these looks. I did it for fun 🙂

Casual-outfits - I on Image -en vacance

The Maxidress -There is nothing quite more summery than a crisp white cotton sundress. Here I have paired it with classic Converse, canvas bag with a coastal vibe, a cool stone washed denim jacket and a good splash of pink.

The Jumpsuit -This a super cool item for people on the go. The material is breezy lyocell that falls nicely and requires practically no care. The eco-conscious fashionistas might be delighted to hear that it is a very sustainable material. Here I have lightened up the khaki with turquoise accents and replaced the handbag with an easy cotton shopper.

The Shirtdress -I just can’t recommend enough buying a shirtdress. This item is one of those rarities that works in the beach and later in the summer back in the office. You can glam it up with heels or choose a comfy espadrille. Here I have teamed it up with a stripy bikini, floppy hat, roomy raffia tote and added a flip flop in a metallic shade of copper.

A round of raspberry mojitos -Life is really too short to go to the hotel and change so I have put this outfit together for those who want their cocktail right after their swim. Consider a one piece instead of a bikini. I like the retro-feeling of this navy one. Team it up with a broderie anglaise-skirt, denim jacket as seen before and pink accessories as seen before. Effortless and fun!

Sightseeing in shorts -Denim shorts get a little lighter when they are made of lyocell. Pair it with a simple stripy tank top, a monogrammed slip on-sneaker and a big stripy scarf, that can also be used as a wrap skirt. Throw on a street credible parka and carry your travel guide book and water bottle in a cool camo-print rucksack.

People spotting in peach -My favorite pastime is just to sit in a cafe sipping a cappuccino and watch people go by. Wear an effortless dress with a comfy, yet glamorous, wedge. A crossbody bag minimizes the risk of a pesky pickpocket stealing your valuables! Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh is a delicate fresh floral -an ideal summer scent if you ask me.

Last glance at that sea -As seen in the previous look, peasant dresses are huge this summer. I love them because they are so retro and comfortable as pyjamas. It’s my requirement #1 for a holiday dress by the way! Here I have paired it with a staked cork heel sandal and the crossbody bag as seen before. I wouldn’t take too much jewellery on a holiday but I couldn’t resist adding a little glamorous bracelet. Guerlain’s Aqua Allegoria -perfume series has beautiful unexpected scents like this one, Herba Fresca.

I hope you love these outfits as much as I do. Go ahead and pin them on your own style board! https://www.pinterest.com/IonImage/i-on-image-en-vacance/ Activate your out office message and don’t skimp on sunscreen. Have a lovely summer time!
