Red October

Red is definitely the hottest colour for AW 2017. It has traditionally been associated with love and passion but also very much with danger. It’s a vibrant colour of assertiveness and loaded with emotions ranging from desire to anger. Difficult to blend into the background red oozes self-confidence and visibility. Jenni Ryynänen of I on Image has hand-picked you the best reds from the collections. You just need to add the attitude.

Wallflowers: Don’t bother

Attention seekers: This season is yours.

Monique Magazine October 2017 Edition

  1. Mother Fake Fur Jacket “Daredevil’s Run”. This is a definition of a statement jacket and it’s ticking other trend boxes too: Fake fur and urban sports. Wear with denim, a basic T-shirt and a vertiginous heel or pristine white sneaker.
  2. Tom Ford Lips & Boys – lipstick in Christiano. Wear on days when your inspiration is low -and suddenly you’ll have plenty!
  3. Zoe Karssen Slogan Sweater “Son of a Gun”. In general I dislike slogans on clothing but clever old school insults are always close to my heart. Wear with a pleated skirt, leather, denim or on a day off: your PJ’s.
  4. Zoe Karssen Piper Acid Flock jeans. We know these powerful two red stripes from sports teams and armed forces. Accessorize accordingly, which ever way you are more inclined.
  5. The Kooples Red Snakeskin-Effect Court Shoe. Spice up your classic tailoring or dress up your denim. A classic shoe with a twist is always a winner and a wardrobe must-have staple.
  6. The Kooples Iconic Emily Mini Crossbody Bag. A red bag is a quick way to spice up an otherwise boring look. It’s a surprisingly versatile bag colour and it has more zest to it than classic black or tan. This firecracker is inspired by actress, model and feminist activist Emily Ratajkowski.
  7. Scotch & Soda Red Sailor Pants. A statement pant is a somewhat curious concept but it does work. Wear with chunky cable knit jumpers or a leather biker jacket. Avoid looking nautical at all cost.
  8. Scotch & Soda Paneled Red Blouse. I am wild about the 80’s secretary look and a silky blouse is essential to it. Wear with classic tailoring and masculine cuts. Leave some buttons open for a relaxed take on the trend.
  9. Tom Ford Eau de Parfum Jasmin Rouge. The sexiest scent under the sun. Use sparingly though, people don’t have to know all your secrets at once!

FRESH WAYS TO WEAR RED THIS SEASON

  • Resist the urge to match red with black. The combination looks so severe and a bit dated. Try navy, camel, white or cream instead.
  • Denim dresses red down nicely. I love this season’s trucker style jackets with shearling or teddy accents.
  • Show some skin. Nude pumps look simply amazing with red. Just remember to celebrate your own unique skin tone and not to conform into high street’s narrow idea of pink-beige nude.
  • Red speaks volumes on it’s own so you won’t need a lot of makeup to accompany it. I love an intense red lip paired with an almost bare face.
  • Instead of complicated trying-too-hard hair do’s try a simple pony tail or just let your hair flow wild and free.
  • Keep jewelry simple to avoid any Christmas party associations.
  • If you really are too shy to wear full-on red then consider injecting just a tiny splash of red in your look by painting your nails red. I also adore a red jacket or handbag lining, not to mention a coveted red shoe sole!

Sale Shopping: The Do’s and The Don’ts

I just love a good sale shopping spree! The town is full of bargains at the moment but those bargains can be deceitful. Sometimes there is a reason why an item ended up in sale and sometimes you will find the item of your dreams for half the price. To help you navigate through the racks full of fluorescent florals that hardly looked good on the model, I have compiled a list of the DO’s and the DON’Ts of sale shopping. All rules apply regardless if you are shopping in stores or online.

DO

Plan ahead: Go through your wardrobe and see what you really need. Sales are great for filling in the gaps in your style story and replacing your trusted basics. Look through your calendar for any upcoming events that might require a new outfit. Set yourself a budget.

Buy basics: These pieces are the foundation of your wardrobe and need most often replacing. There is no point paying a full price for them when you can get a full update with a reduced price. I just replaced a bunch of T-shirts. Boring, but we do need them.

Buy classics: These pieces will give you joy for years to come. There are so many lists for the classics every woman and man needs to own but actually you define your own classics. A trench coat is a true classic but so is a biker jacket.

Buy items with WOW-factor: These are the items that make your wardrobe shine. It’s the 3rd stage when building a wardrobe after you have mapped your perfect basics & classics (see points above). These items tend to be pricey and are often made in a limited edition so if you manage to snatch one then you can congratulate yourself. Wear them with denim, flats or a plain T-shirt if the feel too OTT for normal day time use, see point below.

Consider price per wear: This is the real price of an item. The most expensive piece becomes a bargain if you wear it a lot throughout the years. The cheapest item becomes expensive if you wear it only once, or gasp, not even once.

Read the T&C: Check the store’s exchange and return policy. Different rules may apply to sale items.

DON’T

Live in a dream: You are not Carrie Bradshaw. You cycle in the rain. You have children. You don’t have time for ironing or dry cleaning as it is. You don’t have a fancy event every week -or if you do can we please hang out?

Buy trends: The trend is usually over by the time the item reaches the sales rack. Buy only if the trend has your name on it. For me it means broderie anglaise and sequins. I wear both trends regardless of the trends.

Go for second best: If the fit is not right or the colour doesn’t flatter your features move on to the next item. A bargain should never make you feel mediocre. Look for sheer excitement and settle for nothing less.

Give up easily: The best buys are worth the browse. If your size or colour is sold out in store it’s worth checking if it’s available online or in another store. Take a photo of the product details to ensure  that you are hunting for the right one.

Buy it just because it’s on sale:
The piece should still fit, flatter your features and fit your life style. Avoid duplicating items in your wardrobe. There are only so many frilly flower dresses that one summer can handle.

Enjoy your sale shopping,
I hope you will find many fabulous things!

Summer Essentials 2017 by I on Image

In last week’s Friday Style Secrets episode on Facebook and Instagram I invited you to share your summer essentials and later I shared my own favorites that are:

  1. A cotton sundress in a lovely colour or print
  2. Sunscreen that doesn’t irritate your skin, killer mascara and lip gloss with SPF
  3. Sunglasses with an attitude

Inspired by the video I wanted to share with you more summer essentials that I have found for my clients or for myself. Please note that, as usual, none of the links are affiliate links. I am an independent personal stylist and I take no kick backs from shops for advertising their products. I work with all brands from Primark to Prada and my sole aim is to find the best items for YOU. Should I on Image ever be involved in an affiliate program it will be clearly marked so you can make an educated style choice.

Here you can watch the video on Instagram and add your own summer essentials in the comments section throughout the summer of 2017!

An unfortunate side note: That turquoise necklace that I am wearing on the video snapped last night and my kitchen was full of beads. I was sad because, besides of it being really nice for the summer, I made it myself a few years ago from two old necklaces (the other one was broken and the other one’s metal parts scratched my skin). I must repair it soon!

summer essentials 2017 by I on Image

1. A cotton sundress in a lovely colour or print. This dress will take you from beach to parties. Just change the accessories. Remember to keep it as glam as possible throughout the day. Summer is too short for frumpy. During the day it’s all about the easy breezy summer chic in flat sandals and cool shades. In the evening you can add a comfy wedge heel or platform sandals and jewelry, tons of jewelry. You can belt the dress for a more defined waistline but you can also eat in these dresses, unlike in many other summer frocks that I have seen lately. I have selected only models that are 100% cotton and my strict criteria was that they must allow you to wear a proper bra underneath. I have also sneaked in a plus size dress because I strongly believe that enjoying summer and fashion belongs to everyone!

a) & Other Stories printed cotton shirt dress. Order yours here.

b) ASOS CURVE palm print midi sundress with ruffle. Order yours here.

c) COS Oversized printed T-shirt dress. Order yours here.

2. Sunscreen that doesn’t irritate your skin, killer mascara and lip gloss with SPF. You will enjoy the summer the most without a sunburn. First, it’s dangerous and aging. Second, it’s as far from chic as can be. So protect yourself. Stay in the shade or use a sunhat. Avoid the frying midday sun (it’s anyway a good excuse for a nap, if your schedule allows).

d) Colorescience Sunforgettable®Brush-on mineral sunscreen SPF 50. Available in 4 shades. Order yours here.

e) Dior Diorshow Iconic Overcurl waterproof mascara. My sister gave the normal version of this mascara to me as a present and I have been a fan ever since. Order yours here.

f) Paula’s Choice Resist Anti-Aging lip gloss SPF 40 in universally flattering pink. Finding a tinted lip product with this high SPF was not easy! Order yours here.

3. Sunglasses with an attitude. Nothing quite adds attitude to any style of clothing than a pair of really cool shades. They allow you to go #nomakeup, hide the fact that you skipped your boot camp in the park and drank rose on the pier with your girlfriends until you (almost) missed the last bus (*happened to a friend*) and most importantly prevent you from getting that miserable headache that I always get from being in the sun.

g) &Other Stories colour block sunglasses. Order yours here.

h) Jeepers Peepers unisex visor style sunglasses with tortoiseshell and gold frame and brown tinted lens. Order yours here.

i) Le Specs ASHANTI matte quartz  diamond mirror cat-eye sunglasses. Order yours here.

Going green

This autumn I find myself drawn to all things that are green. I associate the colour green strongly with nature: for me it’s the colour of tranquility, freshness, growth and fertility. Green makes me think of safety and it’s also commonly associated with money. It’s a delightfully fresh looking colour that to my excitement makes a return in fashion every few years.

With green it’s important to choose the right shade for your skin tone to avoid looking sick -or envious- but there is a shade for everyone. My personal favorites are bottle green and olive green. I also love fresh grass green and luxurious shades of emerald and jade. Green looks great with our trusted neutrals black and denim, and I am also giving you the green light to wear it with your winter whites (see what I did there).

I have created you these five green looks to wear this season in the office. Hope you like them as much as I do. Let’s celebrate the positive power of green! I have also pinned them all on my Pinterest board: https://nl.pinterest.com/IonImage/i-on-image-working-wardrobe/styled-by-i-on-image-aw2016/so go ahead and pin them on your own style board for your inspiration.

Did you like these looks? As mentioned earlier, each one of them can be ordered through StyleFruits.nl by clicking each photo. If you don’t feel like shopping on your own, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me. Along my image consulting services I offer personal shopping service -live and online. Shopping with an expert saves you time and money, also it saves you from having a headache trawling around the shops alone. You can book your personal shopping session here on my webpage or you can send me an email to reserve your spot in style!

Enjoy the rest of the week!

Summer special 2016: I on Image -En Vacance

Here comes I on Image holiday special for summer 2016! I know you have earned your stylish break so let’s make it a breeze for you. I have created a bunch of summer styles for you to steal.
I love these shades of coral and turquoise that take me immediately far far away on a pristine beach where the days are long and lazy. A wide brimmed sunhat and stylish sunglasses are an absolute must. I get headaches so easily in the sun, and who has time for that on a holiday. Flat sandals give your toes a break and matching accessories finish your look. I also always love to have a new summer scent that sets the mood for the whole season. I got mine already in May!

I hope you love these outfits as much as I do. You can find them all -AND MORE- on my Pinterest board: https://nl.pinterest.com/IonImage/i-on-image-en-vacance/styled-by-i-on-image-summer-2016/ Go ahead and pin them on your own style board! Then it’s time to sit back and just look good. Okay reading a nice book or having a cocktail with a colourful umbrella are pretty good alternatives too!

Packing is definitely my least favorite part of the holiday but with the help of professional organizers Melissa Curran Kalker of Sorted by Melissa and Susanne Gaspar of The Space Woman it feels like a walk in the park http://ionimage.nl/i-on-image-asks-the-experts-packing-for-holiday/

Activate your out office message and don’t skimp on sunscreen.
Have a lovely summer time!

In the navy

I on Image is in love with navy blue for several seasons now. It’s a universally flattering colour and one of the best shades to choose in your working wardrobe. It’s very chic and elegant and most certainly less severe than black. Gone are the days of boring uniform-like pantsuits that are diplomatic in a sense that they look good on no one. This season navy is sleek, sexy, modern and it works for both day and night time.

I have created you five navy looks to wear this season in the office. I have combined navy with beige, grey, bordeaux and even black. Yes that is allowed in 2015. Hope you like them as much as I do!

Did you like these looks? If you don’t feel like shopping on your own, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me. More wine? I on Image tastes wines with Sanna Pöyry

It’s Friday and let’s just admit it : we all could use a glass of wine by now!

Luxurious and deep shades of red wine are huge this season and very appropriate for the office. Rich bordeaux is a very powerful colour, but it’s less aggressive than scarlet red, and it suits most colour types. It combines well with black, grey, white, cream and even pale pink.

I have created you four wine-hued looks to wear this season in the office. All looks can be pinned to your own style board here: https://nl.pinterest.com/IonImage/i-on-image-working-wardrobe/styled-by-i-on-image-aw2015/

Whether you are heading to the local hot spot with the colleagues or curling up inside a warm blanket at home, there is certainly something magical about a good glass of red wine on a crisp autumn evening. Wine educator Sanna Pöyry from Studio Bronx has chosen I on Image fans four amazing red wines to match each look. I have known Sanna since forever and I just love her joie de vivre. She is adventurous and passionate about wine and with her I have tasted some of the best wines I have ever tasted in my life. Here her impeccable taste in wine meets my passion for fashion. Santé!

Goes well with a Cabernet Sauvignon: Miguel Torres Manso de Velasco, Curico Valley, Chile

Goes well with a Merlot: Château Siaurac Plaisir de Siaurac, Lalande-de-Pomerol, France

Goes well with a wine from Chianti: Isole e Olena Chianti Classico, Chianti, Italy

Goes well with a Pinot Noir: Jean Stodden Spätburgunder Alte Reben Trocken, Ahr, Germany

Enjoy the rest of the week in style!

LBD for all body shapes

There is no single item in a woman’s wardrobe that is more versatile, more flattering or more chic than The Little Black Dress, aka LBD. Fashion bible Vogue praises this wardrobe classic:

“You can’t go wrong with a little black dress. It’s timeless, yet timely. Hardworking, but just a tiny bit frivolous. It camouflages flaws and showcases assets. It’s almost perfect.” Alexandra Horton

I have created 5 IOI-proof looks for you to wear in the office this season. Technically this one item is all you need to look polished and sophisticated every single day. The key is to find the one that works for your body shape and update is to each season with fresh accessories. Each dress featured in this story can be dressed up or dressed down depending on your accessories. I am crazy about combining nude heels with my LBD but the super chic quilted ballet flat does it for me too.

The 5 most common body shapes are:

  1. Apple
  2. Pear
  3. Rectangular
  4. Hourglass
  5. Inverted triangle

Find your own body shape by simply measuring yourself or look yourself in a full length mirror wearing black top and tights or leggings. This article gives you a full insight about finding your bodyshape http://www.whowhatwear.com/how-to-find-body-shape-calculator/

I always recommend dressing according to your own body shape to my clients. A lot of style advice is based on people having to hide their flaws, rather that embracing what is good about their body. For me this way of thinking is alien because hiding and projecting negative thoughts towards your body has never done anyone any favours. There is a dress for every body shape out there, go and grab yours!

Did you like these looks? I have pinned them all on my Pinterest board https://nl.pinterest.com/IonImage/i-on-image-working-wardrobe/lbd-for-all-body-shapes/ so you can pin them on your own style board.

Happy shopping and happy pinning!

No white after Labor Day

US Labor Day was on Monday 7th September 2015 and to many this has been the time to pack away your white clothing. I on Image answers the question that has plagued mankind for decades: Can you wear white after Labor Day? The grand house of American etiquette, The Emily Post Institute in Vermont gives us a historical insight to this style rule:

“Back in Emily’s day—the nineteen 00s, 10s and 20s—the summer season was bracketed by Memorial Day and Labor Day. Society flocked en masse from town house to seaside “cottage” or mountain “cabin” to escape the heat. City clothes were left behind in exchange for lighter, whiter, summer costumes. Come fall and the return to the city, summer clothes were put away and more formal city clothes donned once more. It was an age when there was a dress code for practically every occasion, and the signal to mark the change between summer resort clothes and clothing worn for the rest of the year was encapsulated in the dictum “No white after Labor Day.” And it stuck.”

Fashion bibles Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar declare this rule dead a long time ago and show several gorgeous ways to incorporate white in your autumn and winter wardrobe.

“The age-old adage advising not to wear white after Labor Day has never looked as wrong as it does for Fall 2015.”Steff Yotka for Vogue
“Whoever decided that white was unacceptable after Labor Day clearly never experienced the coziness of an alabaster-colored cashmere knit on a crisp fall day or the luxe feel of buttery leather leggings in the softest shade of cream.” for Harper’s Bazaar

I have created you four wearable white looks to wear this season in the office and beyond. All looks can be pinned from this Pinterest board: https://nl.pinterest.com/IonImage/i-on-image-working-wardrobe/styled-by-i-on-image-aw2015/

Did I convince you to wear white all year round? In case I did, it’s time to stock up on Vanish. Happy shopping and enjoy your well earned weekend!
