LBD Party Edit

Welcome to I on Image’s Little Black Dress (aka LBD) Party Edit! This blog article is full of stylish ideas to help you to look stunning during this party season.

I am offering you a carefully curated selection of whopping ten (yes 10!) Little Black Party Dresses to choose from. Enjoy!

My LBD Criteria

1. The dress must have sleeves because I am tired of looking matching cover-ups. Somehow they never quite work. I still want to have my arms covered.

2. Ideally it has a little bit of length because I am done with the micro-minis. Midi-length looks incredibly stylish and can be worn without tights too. Shorter hemlines must go with opaque tights.

3. I want to wear a bra under my Little Black Party Dress. This is non-negotiable. There must be a backside to it, otherwise I’ll pass.

4. A machine washable dress wins all those dry-clean-only -tags. Dry cleaners cost money, time and energy. Who wants to spill those?

5. It would be great if the dress travels well. I rarely feel like ironing when I arrive to my destination. The dress need to be ready to rock when I take it out of my suitcase.

Discover Your Perfect Little Black Party Dress

  1. Find a model that works for your unique body shape
  2. Pay careful attention to details and material
  3. Shop with the event and season in mind
  4. Remember to also budget in your shoes, bag and jewelry
  5. You might also need a coat or a shawl to keep you warm

Yeah I am planning on a holiday this year and that’s what I thought no one knows me so I can hopefully feel more comfortable. Thank you for your kind comments and helpful tips! Will use them xxx

  2. I on Image says:

Thank you Lauren! If you don’t feel confident to wear dresses, try wearing one just at home for a few hours to get used to it. Or wear a dress if you are on holiday. Being away is a great time to explore your style because nobody knows you and they might think that it’s your every day style. Build confidence slowly and next thing you know you’re wearing a dress on a regular day xxx

I can so relate to your Must-haves in a dress! and it’s not easy! I am currently creating looks for party dresses and finding ones that are mid-length and have sleeves is not an easy thing. I love your choices

  4. I on Image says:

All my clients ask for sleeves so I have made it my style challenge to find the most amazing dresses with sleeves. You are right about the length, Sophie. For your figure a shorter hemline is more flattering. I included a couple to have more variety. The Vila one and Neo Noir ones are also shorter. High-low works well too. You could also consider belting your dress to add definition. Enjoy this lovely time xxx

Aaaah, sounds like you have already found your ideal Little Black Dress, Cassie! Maybe you could wear it for New Year with sparkly jewelry? Have a wonderful countdown to Christmas xxx

  6. I on Image says:

Yeah, it’s an amazing dress! So much fun and such a great price. Jeffrey Campbell would be more of an investment. Who knows, maybe they will go on sale later… Enjoy the most wonderful time of the year Alice xxx

Some amazing suggestions here! I totally agree about the sleeves, but I do usually go for something a little shorter in length. I’m only 5ft and tend to find that midi dresses make my legs look tiny. I love the look of the Love & Divine Lace Midi Smock Dress, it looks so elegant x

  8. a Life on a Dime says:

I love the ruffled dress! I currently have one black dress and it’s definitely been versatile – it’s a high-low maxi with a v neck. I’ve worn it to the office with a scarf or statement piece, animal print shoes, heels, it was great when I was pregnant too! Can’t wait for more date nights so I can add another to my wardrobe!

  9. blacktulipbeauty says:

Oh my gosh the Pieces mesh dress is GORGEOUS, I’m going to look it up right now on the site!! I also adore the Jeffrey Campbell crystal pumps but somehow I don’t think I’ll be able to afford them… ha!

Thank you for asking Susanne! I love flat shoes and in this story I have gone for more flashy styles. For business related events you might indeed want to choose a more formal shoe. I like a classic ballerina with a round toe or a pointed toe, depending on the style of your outfit. I am sure you will look amazing! Check out the following brands: Paul Green, Gabor, Peter Kaiser, Kennel + Schmenger and Hogl. All wonderful quality, classic brands with great selection of business appropriate footwear in a wide size range. Hope this helps! -Jenni

  11. Susanne says:

Oh I love this, and it came just at the right moment! Thank you! Now my question is, when the event is business related, what kind of flat shoes would work for it (when you cant wear heels for health reasons)?

Chime in... I'd love to hear what you have to say!
