Events in April

This month I will be putting myself out there and speaking at a couple of events. I have listed them all in this blog post but you can also find them here under the events-tab.

On the weekend of 14th – 15th April I will give a workshop on finding your best colours at Finnish Womens Day NL in Hotel Bilderberg Résidence Groot Heideborgh in Garderen. This is a very special edition of the annual event as it’s the organization’s 30th anniversary. Congratulations are in order! I have covered the previous events in my blog and you can read the stories here. Word of warning: the 2017 coverage contains a fan pic… As usual this event was sold out in just a few weeks but I will be posting pics of the event on my Instagram. Stay tuned and follow me already today!

On Wednesday 18th April I will be speaking at Finnish Dutch Chamber of Commerce’s Personal Branding and Business Image -event along international brand advisor Michiel Maandag of Monday Brand Advisory. Come and learn how to brand yourself and hear practical advice on how to support your personal brand with a unique style that is remembered for the right reasons. During the event you have a possibility to get a new business head shot for your LinkedIn or CV taken by photographer Jenna Rutanen. Please note that registration is mandatory and it closes on 13th April. Find tickets and info in here. I am looking forward to seeing you there!

Continuing on the personal branding theme, I will be exploring the science behind first impressions and giving tips on how to create a great first impression at Cultcheers event on Thursday 26th April. This is a brand new startup operating in Amsterdam (and worldwide) that I have recently joined and I am super excited to be a part of this dynamic organization! You can book your very reasonable priced tickets here.

I am wishing you a wonderful month and hope to see you at one of the events!

Happy International Women’s Day 2018

I believe in women and want to arm them with a strong personal image and a recognizable personal brand that will give them more visibility and  better opportunities. A big part of my job is to help building confidence, saying you can do it and allowing people to see themselves as a capable and talented professional and not just someone who happened to pass by at the right moment. The right personal style comes only after a strong self-image has been defined and implemented. Education, motivation and confidence are huge factors but what else can be done to gain gender equality? I went to study some data.

World Economic Forum’s  Global Gender Gap Report measures gender equality by bench marking 144 countries regarding their progress on gender parity. It concentrates on four main themes: Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment. In addition the 2017 edition shows also “data around the dynamics of gender gaps across industry talent pools and occupations“. I found this part particularly interesting and hope that will be included in the future. However reading the report didn’t make me particularly happy because despite the small victories the overall findings were disappointing.

Despite the efforts to close the gender gap for good, I read that the gap is actually widening and that the progress is going backwards. It was estimated that with the current rate of progress it will take 170 years to close the gap but the 2017 report from November 2017 found that it will take 217 years to close the gap. It means that the current measures taken are not strong enough and a lot of work still needs to be done. Women are still missing out on opportunities and overlooked during promotion discussions. To me it feels like waste of valuable resources and talent.

The findings tell that the key to closing the gender gap in the workforce is to hire more women. When women participate and go after leadership roles in the workforce all women profit: More women are then hired at all levels throughout the organizations and fields of speciality. That is why it is important to support a steady increase of the proportion of women in leadership. Is your organization doing enough on this front? Are you doing enough to promote women? What else could you or your organization do to put more women in leadership positions and accelerate positive change?

I am a one woman shop but in my work I see a lot of women. They come in many shapes, sizes, nationalities. They are unique, talented, ambitious, self-aware, curious. On March 8th the world is celebrating International Women’s Day and I am joining in celebrating all the women in the world, but there is a special place in my heart reserved for my wonderful female clients. Here at I on Image I am celebrating milestones both big and small. I love when my clients are reaching the stars and living their dreams.

This year’s International Women’s Day’s theme is Press for Progress and encouraged by the inspiring theme I wanted to take a pledge to live by. Mine is closely related to my work and resonates strongly with my business values:

I will forge positive visibility of women

IWD2018-pressforprogress

I made that card on International Women’s Day’s website. Join the movement and make your own here. Take a pledge and share it with me. I would love to see the variety and how everyone’s pledges tie to their values and their work. You can mail me at ionimage@gmail.com or tag me in social media.

Happy International Women’s Day 2018!

Let’s make together a positive difference for women!

Happy New Year 2018

Style is a powerful, yet often overlooked, tool for making positive first impressions on- and offline. Your personal image is one of the few aspects of your life that you have a full control of and I am delighted to help you to invest in yourself in 2018. A well planned wardrobe brings you clarity and confidence, and it helps you to concentrate on things that are important to you by minimizing the amount of decisions you need to take on a daily basic.  I help you discover and unleash your own unique style that is remembered for the right reasons. For me it has never really been about individual trends that change every season but about building a sustainable individual style that tells your story. I truly believe that everyone deserves to be the I on their personal image!

Are you after your dream job? Or did you quit so you could open a whole new page in your career? Did you get a promotion or are you working toward getting one real soon? Are you going back to work after a sabbatical or maternity leave? Perhaps you have started your own business? Could you profit from increased confidence when attending networking or company events? Do you feel that in general your style could reflect better your professional qualities?

This year it’s time to invest in yourself and claim the ownership of your image. Put your best foot forward in 2018 and book your appointment here.

Finnish Women’s Day 2017 in Garderen

Last weekend  I attended the 29th edition of Finnish Women’s Day in Garderen. It’s an annual event full of fun and friendship that gathered together an all-time record amount of 120 Finnish women living in the Netherlands and Belgium. There was also a nice amount of ladies who have lived in the Netherlands before and wanted to come and see their friends again. This year I gave up my spot in the organizing committee to wonderful new talent and fresh ideas and attended the event as a guest for change. Of course I on Image was a proud sponsor of the event and donated 3 gift vouchers in the immensely popular raffle where the prizes are getting every year more and more amazing.

This year the event joined in Finland’s centennial celebrations under theme Suomi 100 and Finnish flags were waving in the air throughout the weekend in the lovely hotel Bilderberg Hotel ‘t Speulderbos. This year’s guest performer was Neumann from Finnish 80’s cult band Dingo. We got to meet our childhood idol before the evening concert and getting a photo together was a must!

The anticipated highlight of the event, a themed evening party on Saturday, was celebrated with dress code blue&white. How else? First we experienced a beautiful performance from Finnish Female Choir TAIKA over a glass of bubbly. Then we enjoyed a delicious buffet dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. After the dinner we all moved to the ball room to listen to Neumann’s concert. It was really amazing to hear all those songs again!

The weekend proved again the power of Finnish women coming together. We have a strong community and it’s something to be proud of. I very much enjoyed the crafts workshops I attended. It’s nice to do something with your hands for a change. I made nice new connections and got inspired to participate in some new initiatives. More information will follow on my social media so stay tuned. You can see more fun photos from the weekend on I on Image’s Instagram page @ionimage or follow #SNPaivat.

Congratulations to the lucky winners of I on Image’s gift vouchers! massive thank you for all the participants and organizers for the memorable weekend!

Season greetings from I on Image

christmas-2016

Dear customers and fans,

Thank you very much for the amazing 2016! It would have not been the same without you. Here’s to another year of impeccable image, magical wardrobes and memorable personal style.

This year I wanted to donate time instead of money, like I did last year, and I was honored to have the opportunity to host a workshop for Empower Amsterdam, a local organization that is empowering job seekers to help themselves. It was a lovely way to give back to our wonderful community and to support small non-profit organization making a difference in this city that we now call home.

I am also spreading an important message from the organization I volunteer for since 2014, Amsterdam Mamas. Read what I am kindly asking for you to do here in my Facebook post.

I on Image wishes you and your loved ones

a Merry Christmas

and

a Happy New Year 2017!

With love and gratitude,
Jenni

I on Image is celebrating 1 year in business

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way and a special thank you to my amazing clients for making this year a blast!

My journey as an entrepreneur started many months, if not years, before the official date, 12th August 2015 that was the date when I registered my company at the Dutch Chamber of Commerce. I had been dreaming of my own business for a long time and after my second baby was born in 2014 it became very clear to me that I won’t be returning to the corporate world any time soon. I wanted my own schedule and my own terms so I could continue doing what I am passionate about without sacrificing my family life (and sanity, if that’s worth anything) in the process. People always told me why don’t you just start your own business but it took me a while to gather the courage and make my dreams come true. One Saturday evening in April I told my husband that I was going to start a business… and so I did.

I launched my Facebook page and my website already on the same night and with shaky hands pressed “publish” thinking that there is no going back now, I am going to do this! I had no idea about so many things but I was hungry to find out. I loved being my own finance, PR, HR, marketing and sales. I sat long lonely nights on my laptop, typically after the children went to bed until midnight, if not longer, polishing my social media pages and my website, finding out better ways to do things and getting inspired by the stories of other businesses, both big and small. The world is full of advice and tools for sale, do’s and don’t and musts, but it soon became very clear to me that there is no other way to do this than my own way. The business had to look like me and it’s heart needs to beat in the same rhythm as mine, there was no other way. It wasn’t a matter of copy-paste & done, there were no shortcuts. I needed to find my own voice to express my passion to be able to appeal to my ideal client. And so I worked more long lonely nights.

I networked live and online, I took courses and seminars, I participated events, I spoke to a lot of people and I listened carefully what they had to say. I did a couple of pilot clients and got even more convinced that I am on a right path. I felt like I was doing a job that felt like a hobby and I was loving every minute of it. One day I got my first paying client! I will never forget it. She was wonderful and I am still in touch with her. It has been a pleasure to follow her journey to success and recently I saw her radiate on stage at an event. I was filled with immense pride to be able to a part of that story. Many other clients followed soon and many other success stories were written. I had the privilege to arrive in people’s lives at a precious moment of change and to be a part of that incredible transformation that the outer world can see through the appearance and style. The undeniably best part of my job is to see that sparkle in my clients’ eyes when they look themselves in a mirror feeling like they are ready to take over the world.

Today I am only one year wiser but nonetheless so very proud that I have gotten this far. I am determined to be better, to give more and to add more value to my clients’ lives. These were my goals for 2016 and I am ticking the boxes every week. It’s fantastic to be one year old and right on track!

Goals2016

Here’s to many more stylish years to come!

Greetings from SPARK 2016

Last month I had the pleasure to join an amazing group of speakers at SPARK 2016 conference that was held at We Work Metropool on 14th June 2016.

This was my first public speaking event in years so you can only imagine how nervous I was. Last year I volunteered at the event and got so inspired that I set myself a goal to speak there the next year. When I found out that I was accepted to speak at the event this year my feelings ranged from sheer excitement to paralyzing fear of failure. How could I possibly measure up with the other speakers who were so much more experienced than I was? The Spark organization must have read my thoughts because us speakers received a fantastic prepping session from Tara Phillips of Cause & Affect Speeches. I can warmly recommend her sessions to everyone looking to upgrade their public speaking skills. It took me a pile of colourful PostIts, several cups of green tea (okay, some wine may have been consumed in the process too…) and a mini vacation to Venice, but one day I just was ready to talk about Polishing Your Personal Image.

The day was kicked off by an upbeat key note speech from Colleen Geske, the brain behind a hilarious blog-turned-bestseller: Stuff Dutch People Like. She spoke about her way to success, hickups on her book publishing path and that ugly moment when she got mansplained. I knew about SDPL but I could never imagine it’s owner was such a fantastic person. We all have a lot to learn from Colleen and I admire her wit and perseverance. Long story short:

Your success should look like you and no-one else.

For me this was definitely highlight of the conference -and that was only the beginning! Colleen’s speech was soon followed by a break-out session from Stephanie Ward of Firefly Coaching. I had the pleasure to meet Stephanie at the last year’s event and I have been a keen follower of her work ever since. With Stephanie it feels like you have your very own marketing department and this year’s theme “Pricing & Packaging Tips to Create a Business Model that Serves You & That Your Clients Love” was yet another dip into the eternal pool of her wisdom.

After delicious and healthy Cropbox lunch it was time for more break-out sessions and my speech. My topic was “Polishing Your Personal Image”. I approached the subject from three different angles: Communication, appearance and digital presence. These elements form your image that is your best calling card and the only aspect of your career that you have a full control of. Your image is also one of the best self-investments you can ever make. I had a lovely audience who listened carefully and came up with great questions afterwards. Thank you for everyone who came to listen and thank you for the organizers for giving me this wonderful opportunity! If you missed it you can view my slides here.

After the second break-out session we gathered to listen to most inspiring female economy stories at Global Female Entrepreneurship Panel where Maneuela Damant of Open the Door Leadership, Nassira Boudhan of Fashion for Education and Kanak Hirani of Pashm and Karigar shared their views on how to provide opportunities for women around the globe by empowering them. This session was a real eye-opener for me and it had a very powerful message!

Last year I on Image was a proud sponsor of the  fantastic event and it was my first outing as an entrepreneur. I made some really wonderful contacts at the event and with some of them I am still in regular contact. I was delighted to see how this movement has grown over a year, just like my own business has. Read more about my goody bag offer at SPARK 2015 here. Speaking of goody bags: I loved it! My favorite items were healthy EatLiveLoveFood crackers and a fun desk exercise card from TotalSelf. We even did some of the exercises in the interactive session “When you thrive, your business thrives: Best practices for protecting your most important asset” but your own desk at home or at the office is probably the place where they are most efficient. Either way:

Remember to take care of number one (yes, that’ll be you).

It’s not selfish, it’s an investment.

The wonderful day was closed by Emmy McCarthy of Emmy McCarthy Consulting. I am a long-term fan of Emmy who is best known for her community building at Amsterdam Mamas where I volunteer as a community admin since 2014. Emmy starting her own consulting business was huge news in our community because everyone was always asking for advice from her and wondering if they should really be on the clock since she always managed to have the best ideas and answers for us. Her closing notes were no exception to this. I was particularly fond about her views on how individuals can add value to their communities by simply contributing to them. Her observations were sharp and spot on:

“Focusing on collaborative growth allows us to drive forward a new economic model that is focused on the value which we provide to our communities rather than the value that we can extract from them.” -Emmy McCarthy

You can read her closing notes in full on her blog post.

It was so nice to see everyone again and to make new connections. I felt I was a part of something very special and that energy carries a long way.

Thank you for everyone who made this inspiring day possible!

I am looking forward to the 2017 event already!

Finnish Women’s Day 2016 in Zutphen

12985476_10153541069807469_3371561554742852198_n

A few of weeks ago I traveled to Zutphen for the 28th edition of Finnish Women’s Day. It’s an annual event full of fun and friendship that gathered together 94 Finnish women living in the Netherlands. This was my second year in the organizing committee and a truly wonderful experience! The event’s special guests were Finland’s craziest shop keeper couple, social media phenomenon from a small village Äkäslompolo in Lapland, Sampo and Minttu Kaulanen of Jounin Kauppa. They spoke us about their stellar success, stamina and perseverance, family life and love under the event’s theme, untranslatable quintessentially Finnish term, SISU.

SONY DSC

Our event guests Sampo and Minttu Kaulanen of Jounin Kauppa in their evening dress up party gear

According to Sisu- expert Emilia Lahti SISU “is extraordinary courage and determination in the face of adversity. It’s about not seeing a silver lining in the clouds, and yet jumping into the storm anyways. At the core of sisu is the idea that in each of us there is more strength that meets the eye.” And for me as a Finnish native this is something I can relate to in my own life. Despite of living over a decade abroad I am still through and through Finnish and feel like I owe a lot in my life to sisu so I really enjoyed listening to the talks under this theme. It’s a long standing tradition that on Saturday evening there is a party where everyone dresses up according to the theme. I went as Rosie the Riveter -who else?

I had the pleasure to host a style workshop under theme Last chance inspired by my popular service Personal shopping in your own wardrobe.  Each participant could bring to the workshop a few items from home, that have been causing them headache. We analyzed each item and thought creative new ways to wear them. As a starting point we used body shape analysis, colour seasons and great basic wardrobe that allows easy mixing and matching. The time flew by having fun! It was almost meant to be that one of my workshop participants won I on Image gift voucher in the Sunday raffle.

Congratulations to the lucky winner and thank you for all the participants!
