Be My Valentine

Our February fashion story is dedicated to love. There is of course Valentine’s Day on 14th February but in these modern days you are allowed to have your own interpretation of what love really means to you. Whether your love is the traditional “you&me forever”-scenario, or you are embracing your secret romance with a lovely lover from Loverville, or your love is one big universal love, or you are just celebrating love -and lust- for life in general, this is the perfect time to open your heart for a little bit more of it. Stylist Jenni Ryynänen of I on Image has hand-picked us a romantic selection from the latest collections in feminine dusty pink hues, rose gold accents and pearls. These items echo nostalgia and beautiful things from the past, but still have a sophisticated and strong modern feel to them. Here’s to love, the most powerful force in the world!

Valentine’s Day selection February 2018

1. Acne Toronto wool scarf with logo. Wrap yourself warm under this large blanket-like scarf that will keep you warm even if your lover is far away.
2. Skagen Agnethe rose gold coloured stainless steel pearl earrings. Beautiful scandi-minimalism for making a statement with your jewelry every day.
3. Marlies Dekkers Viva La Vida corset (3.1) with matching Brazilian briefs (3.2. picture is from the back). This Dutch designer makes underwear for strong grown-up women and her Frida Kahlo inspired collection is no exception. It brings the life and work of artist Frida Kahlo into the spotlight and celebrates her creativity and remarkable stamina.
4. Serge Lutens Féminité du Bois Eau de Parfum 50ml. This earthy cedar wood scent expresses the masculine side of femininity and has been described as revolutionary.
5. Sandro pink lace dress with white accents. I love the playful vintage feel of this dress. Wear with a classic block heel for a romantic look or add a modern twist with a sleek trainer.
6. Swarovski Iconic Swan Ring. This open ring has a stunning crystal encrusted black swan and a simple pearl on the other end.
7. Chloé Marcie mini crossbody bag in powdery pink leather. Great investment piece with a flowy boho touch that is Chloé’s signature style.
8. Skagen Agnethe rose gold coloured stainless steel bracelet with pearl. Match with the earrings mentioned above or wear on it’s own.
9. Salvatore Ferragamo Luca pump with low flower heel and sophisticated round toe. Wear with mini dresses that would look too much with a stiletto or soften up your boyish denim.

Clean Slate

Let’s kick off 2018 with a clean slate. That means forgetting about the past, forgiving others and yourself, giving a promise about a better future and wishing amazing things to one another. Good resolutions are also in order. There is no other colour that symbolizes successful new beginnings better than white. It’s the colour associated with light, goodness, innocence and purity. Stylist Jenni Ryynänen of I on Image has selected the best winter whites for you to step into New Year in style.

WHITE SELECTION January 2018

  1. Tigha Louna lace dress with frilled sleeves. White dresses are no longer reserved for only balmy summer days. They are wearable in the winter with black opaque tights and a chunky cardigan during the day. Add statement earrings for an epic night out.
  2. Moncler Gamme Rouge Nynke tweed jacket with shearling collar. There is no better signature style than wearing a chic statement jacket. It gives you an instant image revamp and upgrades your basic outfits in a flash. Wear over a lacy dress or sleek leather leggings, add snow boots or mile high heels.
  1. Maje Mila cable knitted jumper with black imitation leather accents. Heritage knitwear is having a huge moment in fashion. This one is sweet and edgy at the same time and you know how I love contrasts. Wear with sporty pants or a sweet pleated skirt.
  2. Arma Roche Plonge lamb leather leggings. Leggings are going to be big news in 2018 but not in the way you are used to wearing them. The key looks will be daring and have a luxurious feel to them. These leather leggings will tick all the boxes while being a rather versatile style to own. Wear with chunky knitwear, billowy blouses or layered under dresses. Take inspiration from glitterati après ski in Gstaad.
  1. Philipp Plein Corinne calf leather shoulder bag. New Year deserves a gorgeous new bag. I love the white pristine leather combined with studs, chain shoulder strap and a crystal encrusted cougar clasp. Perfect for your inner Snow Queen!
  2. Nubikk Giga Roma patent leather ankle boots. Beautiful 60’s style ankle boots pair well with surprisingly many styles: Mini and maxi dresses, culottes, wide and skinny trousers. I would combine mine with high wasted mom jeans and cosy heritage jumper for the day and an Audrey Hepburn inspired mini dress for the evening.
  3. Maurice Lacroix Eliros diamond watch. A stylish time piece symbolizes new beginnings so no wonder they make popular gift items for a special occassion: graduation, promotion and retirement, to mention a few. Your watch -or the lack of it- says a lot about you and is considered as one of the key items when building a signature style. One with diamonds radiates timeless elegance and sophisticated femininity.
  4. Armani EA7 Core waterproof skipants. Life is too short to be freezing yourself to an icicle. Solve the problem by wearing pants that work wonders in subzero temperatures like these amazingly sleek ones that are also waterproof. Athleisure will remain a global megatrend in 2018 so if you haven’t opted in yet, now it’s the time to hop on the trend of practicality and comfort without having to sacrifice the style.

Here’s to a prosperous and wonderful 2018!

May your days be merry and bright!
SPARKLES December Edition 2017 for Monique Magazine

Monique Magazine December 2017 Edition

SPARKLES EDIT December 2017 clockwise from left
  1. Josh V golden biker jacket. Make a statement by toughening up your look with this striking biker jacket. Wear with denim, LBD, floor length gowns… Practically anything that needs a little -or a lot- oomph. Note to self and y’all: You can be spotted all the way from Mars so be prepared to get all the attention.
  2. Blush 14k gold hoop earrings with zirkonias and 14k gold stud earrings with zirkonias. I am a big fan of simple sparkling earrings that bring a touch of luxury to your trusted basics. These are also ideal for situations when your outfit is so over the top that jewelry needs to be simple yet sophisticated. Believe it or not it happens to me quite often!
  3. Inna customized dress with high frilled neck and bow tie. With the ever rising popularity of slow fashion nothing says timeless elegance better than made to measure clothing. These dresses are available in many styles and colours to fit every shape and taste. Please note that a couple of fitting sessions are required but then you can be sure that your dress is a true match to your body shape.
  4. Josh V glitter and gold wrap mini dress. If you are looking for a true va-va-voom dress this Christmas, look no further. This ticks all the boxes: High octane shine, check. Plunging neckline, check. Figure hugging, check. For a more modest look, layer it over a turtle neck and wide leg trousers. For a rock chick look layer over black leather-look leggings and add a smokey eye and a truckload of jewelry.
  5. Blush 14k gold necklace with zirkonia pendant and 14k gold chain. Layering necklaces is a fun way to create some panache in your everyday look and the style works really well at parties too. Start with two delicate chains in the same metal and start elevating your personal style from there. These come in various styles and metals accompanied by a collection of pendants. Never underestimate how desirable the smallest of packages under the tree can be!
  6. Josh V golden patent leather ankle boots. No time or energy to dress up after a hectic day? Wear these statement boots with your trusted denim and an oversized cashmere sweater. Jewelry is optional if you managed to slick on a hasty statement lip.
  7. Blush 14k gold rings with and without zirkonias. They come in various contemporary and classic styles, and are therefore ideal for stacking and collecting. Mix and match creatively different metals and textures to make the look your own. Remember also that tiny presents travel really well and that they make perfect stocking fillers.
  8. Anna + Nina golden shell minaudière. There is something utterly fascinating about pretty little bags that don’t fit anything in them. The idea of leaving the house with only a lipstick, pin card and keys just feels so wonderfully decadent and joyous. Where is the girl carrying that bag going? Who is meeting? Where will she end up? Big questions for such a little bag. If you are a free spirit only in your dreams then opt for a coat with big pockets that will fit everything else.
  9. Josh V golden patent leather stilettos with transparent insert. Make a big impact in metallic heels that are huge news this season. I promise that they are surprisingly versatile and ten times more festive than any neutral shade would be. They add instant glam to the simplest of outfits. Skip the boring going-home-to-change-part and just slip your feet into these shiny babes comes happy hour.
  10. Anna + Nina gold plated brass Ginko leaves statement necklace. This necklace is a powerful way to style your office look into a party look in a flash. This speedy transformation from office to OMG can be done easily in the back of an Uber. They also have matching earrings available for maximum impact. On a big night out wear with a crisp white blouse and a full skirt.
  11. Anna + Nina gold plated brass shell statement earrings. Set your minimalistic LBD apart with a pair of larger than life statement earrings. Just slick your hair back and add a dramatic lip. Alternatively pay homage to recently deceased maestro Azzedine Alaïa and wear an unapologetic body con dress.

HOW TO WEAR SPARKLY LOOKS OF THIS SEASON:
  • Combine shiny items with clashing textures. Think cashmere, wool, leather and denim.
  • Don’t reserve the sparkles only for the night. They work really well in the daytime too with a big sweater and opaque tights.
  • Choose one amazing sparkly item per look and keep the rest simple to avoid an overdose of sequins.
  • Keep the makeup simple yet powerful with emphasis on the lips or on the eyes, never both.
  • Don’t take yourself too seriously. The party season was invented for the people to have fun!

Hear Me Roar

Bold leopard prints took over the fashion scene in AW 2017 and so wearing it right now has become almost inevitable if you already weren’t a fan. It’s the classic that keeps on returning season after season, alternating it’s form from chic to punk, from glamorous to cosy. Jackie Collins stated that her biggest weakness was wearing too much leopard print at once but when you take a look at this edit you’ll wonder if that’s even possible. Jenni Ryynänen of I on Image has hand-picked you the best leopard prints that are the go-to pieces that you will keep on returning to.

Leopard Trend November Edition 2017 for Monique Maga

Monique Magazine November 2017 Edition

LEOPARD PRINT EDIT AW2017 clockwise from left
  1. Tommy Hilfiger V-neck sweater. I love the ecletic mix of cosy, preppy and punk in here. Wear with denim, a chic pencil skirt or a playful pleated skirt. Your shoe of choice will define the look.
  2. Fabienne Chapot maxi dress. This is such a demure frock with it’s long sleeves, thin belt and a buttoned up collar, but the leopard print makes it suddenly so naughty. Well, who doesn’t love a woman with many sides? Hardly anyone of us fits in a narrow box anyway. Wear buttoned up in the day time and button down big time after dark.
  3. Scotch & Soda fake fur jacket. As we all know fake fur is the only way to go and this season it is a must-have in every stylish wardrobe. Wear with denim, clashing prints, leather, silk, tweed…
  4. Scotch & Soda scarf. This adds a hint of cheetah in your wardrobe in case you are too shy to go full-on. A big scarf is on top of every travel essentials lists for it’s versatility. I always fly wrapped up in a scarf. It’s a life saver for speedy outfit transformations on the go. Time to sign up for Pinterest scarf tutorials!
  5. EIJK Amsterdam ankle boots. Perfect chic ankle boots with a walkable heel to lift up any outfit from blah to bravo. Make a statement with every step you take!
  6. Levi’s T-shirt. Writer Caitlin Moran once said that “Leopard print is a neutral” and this T-shirt rests my case on that statement. Wear with classic tailoring or denim for the day and with layers of tulle for the happy hour.
  7. Minna Parikka penny loafers with bunny ears. A classic shoe with something unexpected is a versatile wardrobe staple. Goes with everything that would look otherwise too serious.
  8. Liu Jo pleated midi-skirt. These thin black pleats reveal a hint of cheetah when you move. Wear with a pussy bow blouse or a cashmere sweater for the day and with lace and leather for an epic night out.
HOW TO WEAR LEOPARD PRINT THIS SEASON
  • Mix and match it creatively with stripes, checks and flower prints. If the look seems a bit “off” it’s probably just right.
  • Tomboy looks love a dash (or even a big splash) of cheetah. Khaki and army green combine really well with leopard print for a casual everyday look.
  • For an extremely glamorous look combine your leopard print with white items and chunky gold jewellery.
  • Spice up your trusted jeans and a sweater combo with a striking item in a leopard print. Think: coat, shoes, bag –or perhaps all of them.
  • Keep the overall look sleek rather than saucy. Avoid anything too tight and too short.
  • Channel your inner feline by wearing a smokey cat-eye. Keep the lips neutral and the hair simple.

Red October

Red is definitely the hottest colour for AW 2017. It has traditionally been associated with love and passion but also very much with danger. It’s a vibrant colour of assertiveness and loaded with emotions ranging from desire to anger. Difficult to blend into the background red oozes self-confidence and visibility. Jenni Ryynänen of I on Image has hand-picked you the best reds from the collections. You just need to add the attitude.

Wallflowers: Don’t bother
Attention seekers: This season is yours.

RED SELECTION AW2017 clockwise from left

  1. Mother Fake Fur Jacket “Daredevil’s Run”. This is a definition of a statement jacket and it’s ticking other trend boxes too: Fake fur and urban sports. Wear with denim, a basic T-shirt and a vertiginous heel or pristine white sneaker.
  2. Tom Ford Lips & Boys – lipstick in Christiano. Wear on days when your inspiration is low -and suddenly you’ll have plenty!
  3. Zoe Karssen Slogan Sweater “Son of a Gun”. In general I dislike slogans on clothing but clever old school insults are always close to my heart. Wear with a pleated skirt, leather, denim or on a day off: your PJ’s.
  4. Zoe Karssen Piper Acid Flock jeans. We know these powerful two red stripes from sports teams and armed forces. Accessorize accordingly, which ever way you are more inclined.
  5. The Kooples Red Snakeskin-Effect Court Shoe. Spice up your classic tailoring or dress up your denim. A classic shoe with a twist is always a winner and a wardrobe must-have staple.
  6. The Kooples Iconic Emily Mini Crossbody Bag. A red bag is a quick way to spice up an otherwise boring look. It’s a surprisingly versatile bag colour and it has more zest to it than classic black or tan. This firecracker is inspired by actress, model and feminist activist Emily Ratajkowski.
  7. Scotch & Soda Red Sailor Pants. A statement pant is a somewhat curious concept but it does work. Wear with chunky cable knit jumpers or a leather biker jacket. Avoid looking nautical at all cost.
  8. Scotch & Soda Paneled Red Blouse. I am wild about the 80’s secretary look and a silky blouse is essential to it. Wear with classic tailoring and masculine cuts. Leave some buttons open for a relaxed take on the trend.
  9. Tom Ford Eau de Parfum Jasmin Rouge. The sexiest scent under the sun. Use sparingly though, people don’t have to know all your secrets at once!

FRESH WAYS TO WEAR RED THIS SEASON

  • Resist the urge to match red with black. The combination looks so severe and a bit dated. Try navy, camel, white or cream instead.
  • Denim dresses red down nicely. I love this season’s trucker style jackets with shearling or teddy accents.
  • Show some skin. Nude pumps look simply amazing with red. Just remember to celebrate your own unique skin tone and not to conform into high street’s narrow idea of pink-beige nude.
  • Red speaks volumes on it’s own so you won’t need a lot of makeup to accompany it. I love an intense red lip paired with an almost bare face.
  • Instead of complicated trying-too-hard hair do’s try a simple pony tail or just let your hair flow wild and free.
  • Keep jewelry simple to avoid any Christmas party associations.
  • If you really are too shy to wear full-on red then consider injecting just a tiny splash of red in your look by painting your nails red. I also adore a red jacket or handbag lining, not to mention a coveted red shoe sole!
